Run, Forrest. Run.

"The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you’re a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds."

- Henry Rollins

It's fair to say that everyone learns something about themselves as they get more and more into Crossfit.  As you get stronger and more fit, you realize just how capable you truly are.  Unimaginable weights become your warmup.  Distances you once thought impossible are a thing of the past.  Whether it's heavy weights or long distances, they are teachers to those who listen.  Pay attention to your thoughts as you get after this run.

Stay positive.  Focus on breathing deeply and steadily.  3-2-1-Go!

I read the rest of Henry's article. Great stuff, and nothing is more  true. I admit to getting scared before lifting big weight. When I was doing the Back Squats today my legs felt like those insects in the Far Side comics - ready to snap off at any moment. But it has never happened. My guts have never shot out through my testicles. It feels like it may happen, but it never does. So, I keep getting underneath the bar.

When I was in High School I was the kind of kid who listened to Black Flag, and not Led Zeppelin, so I have been familiar with Henry for a long time. For those of you folks who want to see what he is up to lately, or to check him out for the first time, he had a radio show on KCRW 89.9 from 1800-2000 on Saturday nights.

It is archived, and there is a KCRW iPhone App that will allow you to listen to past shows by tapping the "On Demand" button. Enjoy, fanatics!

I wanted to give some props out to a few pr's accomplished so far today! First of all congrats to Libby for running her first 5K and doing it in under 35minutes. I asked her when the last time she ran that far was and she said probably never, which is just incredible, great work! Gotta give it up to Sam who finally got his first Muscle Up today after the OLY class. It shows what a little hard work and practice can do for you. He had a goal to get his Muscle up before his one year mark and did, so nice work Sam. Also Kent our resident High School fire breather, got his first Muscle Up as well today after the OLY class. So great work guys, keep working on those weaknesses and anything is achievable.

A little disappointed in my run time today.  Not a personal best at 33:15.  It's just those darn hills by our house that killed me.  Oh well, I have a goal to break this time!

Pushed hard running Sunday to gauge my capabilities. Ran intervals for 30 min, could almost get to full stride thru extreme pain. It was the most dynamic thing I have subjected myself to yet. I'll be fine, but I am definitely still healing from it. First day back at work this Saturday. Hope you all are well. "Dig, dig, dig."

Thanks Nick for everything!  When I first walked into CF 11 months ago, just getting a pull up was a goal ... never did I think I could get a muscle up.  Took awhile to build up to it and then it was just a matter of being healthy enough to give it a real shot and some very good coaching.  Bring on the next Muscle Up WOD!
